Why take out travel insurance?

Nobody likes thinking about the unexpected, but it is part of life. A health issue before departure, a delayed flight, a piece of lost luggage: all situations where good insurance makes the difference between a brief inconvenience and a real financial headache.

We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance, whether through the options we offer or with your own insurer. It is the guarantee of fully enjoying your stay, with no second thoughts.

Before the trip: cancellation insurance

Cancellation insurance protects you if you need to cancel your trip for a reason covered by the policy (illness, accident, serious family event, etc.). It reimburses the costs incurred according to the terms of the contract.

A few practical tips:

• Take out your cancellation insurance at the time of booking: this is often a condition for it to be valid
• Read the covered cancellation reasons and exclusions carefully
• Keep all supporting documents (medical certificate, official attestation, etc.) in case of a claim
• Check whether your credit card already includes cancellation cover, as it may be sufficient for certain amounts

During the trip: assistance and repatriation

Once in Greece, the assistance policy takes over. It covers, among other things:

• Repatriation assistance in the event of illness or accident on-site
• Search and rescue costs if needed
• Medical expenses incurred abroad (consultations, hospitalisation, medication)
• Trip interruption for a covered reason
• Personal liability abroad

Good to know: if you hold a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC), bring it along. It is free and valid throughout the European Union. It does not replace travel insurance, but it facilitates access to routine medical care. If you are travelling from outside the EU, check your home country's reciprocal healthcare agreements with Greece, or ensure your travel insurance includes full medical cover.

Bike insurance

If you are heading off on a cycling trip, a specific policy covers material damage that your rental bike might sustain during the trip. Ask your advisor for details at the time of booking.

If something goes wrong on-site

Kelifos remains available throughout your stay via our assistance number. If anything goes wrong, we guide you through the steps and liaise with your insurer if needed.
