October is the month of intimacy rediscovered in Greece. Olive trees bend under the weight of their fruit, villages return to their unhurried rhythm, and the light (amber, almost coppery) wraps every landscape in a soothing beauty. The sea is still mild, the terraces remain open, and you share with the locals these last warm days when everything feels simpler, more real. Let yourself be drawn to a discovery of this autumnal Greece, on foot or by bicycle.

Temperatures hover between 20 and 25 degrees, an ideal gentleness for walking and cycling. The sea retains around 22 degrees, still allowing lovely swims, especially in Crete and the southern Aegean islands. The first rains, rare and brief, refresh the earth and awaken the scents of the garrigue.
This is the month of the olive harvest, an ancestral ritual that sets the rhythm of entire villages. Olive presses whir into action, fresh oil flows, and you taste the first table olives with fresh bread and local cheese. Some ferry connections become less frequent, but the islands that remain accessible offer a deeply local atmosphere: you are welcomed not as a tourist, but as a guest.
Crete is the surest choice in October. The most southerly island in Greece holds its warmth longer than the rest. The gorges are walkable, the southern beaches nearly deserted, and the inland villages pulse with the rhythm of the harvest. Discover Crete.
The Peloponnese lends itself beautifully to an autumn self-drive tour. The olive groves of Messinia, the citadel of Monemvasia, the lanes of Nafplio, everything is visited in absolute calm. Temperatures remain gentle and the light is that of painters.
The Southern Cyclades (Santorini, Milos, Folegandros) still enjoy fine days in October. The paths are deserted, the sunsets unshared, and charming addresses often offer their best rates. See our trips in the Cyclades.

— Beautiful scenery, a guide who made herself available to us, a great way to discover the island of Sifnos.
