Greece in April
In April, Greece awakens to the scent of thyme and wild sage. The hillsides blaze with poppies, asphodels and orchids; whitewashed chapels stand crisp against a deep blue sky. This is the moment when the Cyclades find their colours again, when Crete reveals gorges carpeted with flowers, and when the paths of the Peloponnese invite you to wander without a crowd in sight. A month of gentle warmth, ideal for a cultural walk at the rhythm of the Greek spring.

Why visit Greece in April?
Temperatures range from 17 to 21 degrees, perfect for walking without excessive heat. The sea, still fresh at around 17 degrees, sparkles under a generous sun. Swimming will come later, but the seaside terraces are already a pure delight. Days are growing longer, the light is soft, and the landscapes are breathtakingly vivid: this is the peak of the spring bloom in Greece.
Orthodox Easter often falls in April, offering a unique cultural immersion. Villages come alive with candlelit processions, tavernas prepare lamb on the spit, and neighbours share Easter bread together. The islands are still untouched by summer tourism: you will mostly encounter locals and a few discerning travellers.
Our suggestions for April
Crete is magnificent in April. The Samaria Gorge is not yet fully open, but the coastal paths and inland villages are brimming with charm. Stroll between Minoan ruins and flowering gardens along the southern coast. Discover our trips in Crete.
The Peloponnese offers a sumptuous spring: silvery olive trees, fields of wildflowers, and ancient sites bathed in tender light. Epidaurus, Mycenae, Nafplio, every stop is an encounter between heritage and terroir. Explore the Peloponnese.
The Cyclades are just beginning their season. Naxos reveals its green valleys and deserted trails, far from the buzz of summer. This is the time to discover the authenticity of these islands at your own pace.
