Greece in summer
Summer in Greece is the light that never ends. Evenings stretch out on a terrace overlooking the sea, a glass of Santorini white wine in hand, while the sun sinks slowly behind the islands. After a walking holiday along breezy ridges cooled by the meltemi, nothing beats a dip in a turquoise cove. Whether you travel by bicycle between villages or at your own pace in complete freedom, summer in Greece has a flavour all its own: that of time standing still.

Why visit Greece in summer?
June and July offer the best of the Greek summer: days are long and luminous, the sea reaches 24 to 26 degrees, and the famous meltemi (that northern wind sweeping across the Cyclades) brings a welcome freshness that makes every stroll a pleasure. Evenings are mild, tavernas set their tables outdoors, and dinner is served late, lulled by the song of cicadas.
It is the season of sun-ripened fruit (figs, peaches, watermelons) savoured in the shade of a plane tree on the village square. Small harbours come alive at the end of the day, fishermen return with their catch, and life takes on that slow, almost nonchalant rhythm that is the very charm of island Greece.
Our suggestions for summer
The Cyclades are in their element: the meltemi tempers the heat and sculpts skies of absolute purity. Coastal paths offer breathtaking vistas, and every village promises a gourmet pause in the shade of a vine-covered pergola.
The Ionian Islands, greener and more sheltered from the wind, seduce with their calm waters and cypress forests that descend right to the sea. Corfu, Kefalonia, Zakynthos, each island has its own temperament, yet all share that Ionian joie de vivre.
In Crete, mountain villages become havens of cool air. Here you discover terroir gastronomy, hilltop monasteries, and shaded paths winding between gorges and plateaux.
