An e-bike, a coastal road bordered by cypresses, the Ionian Sea sparkling below, and round the next bend, a fishing village where they serve the morning's catch under a vine trellis. This is Kefalonia, the largest of the Ionian Islands, and this is the gentlest way to discover it. With Kelifos, you pedal at your own pace along quiet roads, the electric assist tames every climb, and your luggage awaits you each evening at a new charming hotel. Everything is planned so that you think only of the pleasure.

Kefalonia is an island of magnificent contrasts: beaches of turquoise waters like the celebrated Myrtos, underground caves illuminated by daylight, forests of endemic fir trees that scent the heights, and colourful harbours like Fiskardo, where Henry Miller saw one of the most charming spots on the planet. By e-bike, you cross these landscapes at the right speed: slowly enough to see everything, quickly enough to vary the pleasures each day.

Program

Arrival on Kefalonia and settle into your hotel in Argostoli, the island's capital. This lively little town on an elegant bay blends traditional charm and joie de vivre: stroll along the seafront, sit on a terrace to taste the local specialities (Kefalonian pasta, the island's feta, Robola wine). Your e-bikes are delivered to the hotel.

First day in the saddle along one of the Mediterranean's most beautiful coastal roads. The electric assist accompanies you on the panoramic climbs that reveal, at every bend, new perspectives over the Ionian Sea. The high point: arriving at the viewpoint above Myrtos beach, its waters of an unreal blue framed by white cliffs. A guaranteed contemplative pause. The road then descends gently to Agia Effimia, a peaceful fishing port where you set your bikes down facing the sea. If the mood takes you, ride down to Myrtos beach for an unforgettable swim.

Heading north, through the verdant hinterland of Kefalonia. The route passes through stone villages (Vassillikiades, Maganos, Germenata) where family tavernas invite a gourmet stop. After the pass, the descent takes you to Fiskardo, jewel of the Ionian archipelago. Its colourful Venetian houses, its lively harbour and its crystal waters make it one of the most beautiful villages in Greece. Settle on a terrace and let the atmosphere carry you.

A day of contrasts between the mountainous hinterland and a sublime coastal road. From Fiskardo, the route heads inland through the green countryside before descending to Agia Effimia. A well-earned pause in this port you already know. Then the road hugs the Ionian coast to Sami, between cliffs, secret coves and waters of deep blue. The electric assist turns this stage into a panoramic ride. Settle into Sami, a character port facing Ithaca.

A free day around Sami, to savour without counting. The underground lake of Melissani is a wonder: a collapsed rock dome lets sunlight pour in, transforming the water into a supernatural blue mirror. The nearby Drogarati cave impresses with its stalactites. You might also pedal to the pretty bay of Antisamos for a swim. And for the most curious, a thirty-minute ferry links Sami to Ithaca, the island of Odysseus, a dreamy day excursion.

The route crosses varied landscapes heading south. After a gradual climb to the pass, rewarded with spectacular views over the mountains and the sea, a long descent brings you to Poros, a charming coastal village perfect for a pause. Then the road follows the coast to Skala, famed for its golden sandy beaches and warm atmosphere. The electric assist makes this crossing comfortable, leaving you every leisure to enjoy the panoramas.

The final stage, the gentlest. The road climbs back to Argostoli through the Robola vineyards, an endemic grape variety of Kefalonia. Panoramic views follow one after another, punctuated by quiet villages and small churches. Stop at a winery for a tasting: Kefalonia's white wine, dry and mineral, is a well-kept secret. Arrival in Argostoli for a final memorable Ionian dinner.

—  The destination is magnificent. Electric bikes are a must. The tour could be improved: more time at Fiscardo, visit to Assos, better coordination of Grand Angle with bike rental company and hoteliers, more advice given on visiting remarkable points (monasteries, island summit, beaches, etc.).
