April opens the walking season in Greece with a gentleness that invites you to set foot on every path without hurrying. The hillsides blaze with poppies and asphodels, the air is fragrant with thyme and sage, and villages rediscover their springtime animation. This is the ideal moment to discover Crete or the Cyclades in soft light, before the heat of summer.

April brings gentle temperatures, between 17 and 21 degrees, perfect for walking at any hour without seeking shade. Coastal paths and mountain trails are carpeted with wildflowers: irises, orchids and anemones compose a tableau found at no other time of year. Visitor numbers remain discreet, and every encounter in a village takes on a more personal quality.
It is also the month of Orthodox Easter, the most important celebration in the Greek calendar. In the villages, preparations begin days in advance: the scent of sweet Easter bread (tsoureki) floats through the lanes, churches glow with candlelight, and tables are set outdoors for the Easter feast. Witnessing these festivities, even from the sidelines, gives the trip a rare cultural dimension.
Crete is an outstanding choice in April: its gorges fill with the murmur of water, its highland plateaux are a carpet of colour, and the mildness of the southern coast already allows you to dip your feet in a cove after the walk. Village tavernas serve the first spring vegetables, drizzled with olive oil pressed just weeks earlier.
The Cyclades lend themselves beautifully to April walks. The paved paths linking the villages of Naxos or Sifnos are still quiet, barley fields ripple in the breeze, and whitewashed chapels stand out against a deep blue sky. This is the time to savour these islands in their intimacy.
The Peloponnese charms with the variety of its landscapes: terraced olive groves, Venetian fortresses perched above the sea, and small harbours where fishermen mend their nets. The mild temperatures allow long afternoons of wandering between hidden paths and heritage.

— great trip... the sites are very well signposted... no problem following a hike... we were even able to enjoy the sea... except in Milos... but we still found the maps very precise.
